Two Things I am Concentrating On During COVID-19…

Many businesses are switching back to defence.

Cutting costs.

Save, save, save.

Hibernation.

They are in survival mode.

Bear Grylls anyone?

Protection and perseveration to get out of pain.

I am doing the opposite and going on offence.

And that doesn’t mean selling!

What I have noticed is that many businesses I have been a customer of previously, are now contacting me after months, or even years of never hearing from them.

Out-of-the-blue they are now asking for money.

They are trying to survive.

Where the F were you while times were good?!

I know, lining your pockets and not caring about your customers.

It’s too late.

It’s all about them.

Reputation isn’t transitionary.

It takes time to build.

Some, but very few, I have noticed are going out-of-their-way to help others — prospects or customers — with no obligation of anything return.

I will remain a customer of those once this pandemic has passed.

And I am doing the same.

What it comes down to is stay top-of-mind for brand recall by being visible in the marketplace.

That visibility results in different messaging and providing goodwill.

One doesn’t need to pivot products, services or solutions or their delivery, although many absolutely need to.

Products, services or solutions can stay the same, but the way they are communicated need to change.

My messaging focuses on helping others survive, not thrive — just have a look at everything I have been output lately.

Providing goodwill comes done to helping with no obligation of anything in return, especially immediately.

Building goodwill comes in all forms, including free and discounted and products, service, and solutions — just have a look at what everything I have been offering lately.

Yes, many of this won’t increase short-term revenue, but if you can weather the storm, you are in a great position for capitalising on the upside of doing these when things return to normal.

What are you doing or thinking of doing to stay top-of-mind — I’d love to know in the comments?
